Rest in Peace, bar cruiser bike

This awesome bike was stolen from in front of my Mission apartment, near 25th and South Van Ness, in late October 2012.

It was a Miyata Beachrunner, originally purchased in Redondo Beach, CA according to a sticker on it. I found it in a dumpster. Designed for cruising beaches and low rolling hills, it had only a rear derailleur. It fit me well. I could jam on this thing if I needed to. The fat tires and ample seat allowed me to glide over bumps.

I bought cork/rubber grips for it that had insulating properties for cool evenings and a cushy feel.

It had a ringing bell that I added: "Bike the Presidio." It made a "shing-shing" sound, not a ding or a cling.  The handlebars, originally in a chrome finish, were probably sturdy enough to be safe -- they had some rust, but probably not enough to be unsafe. Touch-up paint helped with that. I added touch-up paint to the frame too, taking care not to paint over the cool decals.

The yellow cables were a custom addition by Ira, and he also helped me outfit it with wheels.

I wish I hadn't locked it to a tree cage. This was a foolish mistake in the Mission. The thief or thieves lifted it up, over head height, after disassembling the tree cage. I was too disgusted to take a picture of the scene of the crime, or report it to the police. They scoff at bike thefts in the Mission.
